The 2007 Diageo Africa Business Reporting Awards were presented at a gala ceremony in the Dorchester Library at the Royal College of Physicians, London on 5th July.
As ever, the ceremony was an enjoyable evening bringing together an international audience from the media, Government and the diplomatic and business communities.
Andrew Mitchell MP, Sutton Coldfield and Shadow Secretary of State for International Development delivered the keynote address. He congratulated the many media organisations in attendance whose investment in Africa has increased |

the proportion of business stories coming out of the continent. Mitchell further stressed the important role of the private sector in communicating the opportunity that African markets represent to their peers in industry and finance:
"These awards are an example of how private sector initiative can help to address some of the continent's most pressing development challenges; and the marginalization of Africa in the international economy is, let us be in no doubt, a pressing development challenge. Today I call on businesses to take on this challenge." |
