"Without a doubt the internet has been very important. There is a the bleak part of it, that internet penetration is still not as high in Africa as it is in the rest of the world. But regardless, the internet has been a powerful force in the transformation of the continent that we have seen. Instantaneously, news about what is happening in Africa and, indeed, what other parts of the world think about Africa, is relayed to the whole of the continent. Increasingly there is greater awareness, and with greater awareness and with the freedom that you have with the internet, there is greater demand on political leadership to behave. More now than at any other time in the past."
