Diageo in Africa
Diageo is proud to be one of the world’s largest global premium alcoholic drinks groups and the largest brewer by value in sub-Saharan Africa, excluding South Africa. Our premium brands are enjoyed in over 40 African countries, where we operate through wholly or partly owned operations and a range of partnerships and licensing agreements. We employ around 5000 people – about 20% of Diageo’s global workforce – at our thirteen breweries, three distilleries and other productions sites and offices, and many more work for our commercial partners and suppliers.
Diageo works in partnership with local businesses and shareholders all across Africa. In South Africa, Ghana and Kenya we have Joint Ventures with international brewers. In Nigeria we jointly own our business with investors in the local stock exchange, and in Tanzania and Namibia we are partners with local and regional businesses. Diageo has a strong track record of bringing global experience in marketing, production and capability building, and each of these businesses has flourished due to the strong combination of local and international expertise brought by the partners in the relationship.
