'Enriching communities'
As the world's leading drinks company, we accept the responsibilities that come with that position. Since we first opened the Guinness Nigeria brewery in 1963, we have made significant contributions through our many community projects. We believe that 'enriching communities' is an important part of our business and through our corporate citizenship agenda we aim to spend 1% of operating profit on projects that deliver real social benefits. During the past year, we invested around £1.5 million in projects in our focus areas of:

  Diageo Africa is committed to actively supporting progress towards the UN-defined Millennium Development Goals and work with the World Bank, IMF, IFC, Private Investors for Africa (PIA), Business Action for Africa (BAA), Global Business Coalition for HIV/Aids (GBC) and local governments to achieve this.
